What Does the Rancho Mirage Energy Authority on Your Edison Bill Mean for Electrical Work?

It means the city's own power program buys your power. That's the Rancho Mirage Energy Authority (RMEA). Southern California Edison (SCE) still delivers it over its own lines, so the utility's side of a job stays with SCE. On one Rancho Mirage panel replacement, SCE set the plan for the digging and conduit. For anything inside your home, call us.

The City's Own Power Program

What Is the Rancho Mirage Energy Authority?

It's the city's own power program. It buys the power for your home, and Southern California Edison (SCE) still delivers it, sends the bill and keeps up the lines. The Rancho Mirage Energy Authority (RMEA) is for homes on SCE only. You were enrolled automatically, and you can choose all renewable power or opt out.

Choose the plan you like. It won't change who works on your wiring.

If you opt out

Your home stays with SCE, and you give up the rebates and programs RMEA keeps for enrolled homeowners.

What It Changes, and What It Doesn't

What Does the City's Power Program Change About Electrical Work in Rancho Mirage?

Not the work itself. The Rancho Mirage Energy Authority (RMEA) only took over buying the power, so the utility's side of a panel upgrade or new solar still runs through Southern California Edison (SCE). Inside your Rancho Mirage home, the panel and wiring are ours to look at, whatever plan you choose.

  • 01

    A panel upgrade's utility side

For a panel upgrade, the utility's part of the job goes to SCE, never to RMEA. SCE's page for panel upgrades

  • 02

Solar waits on the city, then SCE

When solar goes in, the city inspects it and issues the permit first. Then SCE gives the go-ahead to turn the system on. SCE's solar basics page

  • 03

    Your bill shows which program

If your Edison bill shows RMEA charges, SCE still delivers your power, and you pay the whole bill to SCE. RMEA's guide to your bill

Homes on IID are outside it

The Imperial Irrigation District (IID) serves a small part of the city, and RMEA isn't open to homes on IID. IID's area runs north of Gerald Ford Drive and east of Bob Hope Drive, and we'll tell you which side of that line your home is on. Rancho Mirage's Utilities page

For the lines, look to SCE. For the panel and wiring, call us.

Which Questions Go to RMEA and Which Go to SCE in Rancho Mirage?

Questions about your plan go to the Rancho Mirage Energy Authority (RMEA), and questions about delivery go to Southern California Edison (SCE). RMEA offers your plan choices and runs rebates for enrolled homeowners. SCE delivers the power and bills you. Neither one works on the wiring inside your home.

Worth a Call First

Which Power Questions at a Rancho Mirage Home Start With Us?

  • A panel upgrade you're planning
  • Solar or a home battery on the way
  • A breaker, outlet or light inside that has stopped working

Anything inside your Rancho Mirage home starts with us, whether you're enrolled in the Rancho Mirage Energy Authority or you've opted out. For a panel upgrade or solar, we look at your panel first and explain what part Southern California Edison (SCE) plays, so you know what to expect from SCE.

What to Expect

How Do We Tell What a Rancho Mirage Job Needs From SCE?

At your Rancho Mirage home, we look at the panel and wiring the job touches and tell you whether any of it needs Southern California Edison (SCE). Any digging SCE's plan calls for, like the trench we filled in at a Rancho Mirage home, is part of the price. You'll see our part tested and know what's left for SCE.

  1. 01

    We evaluate first.

We start at your main panel and check the circuits the job would touch, up to the point where SCE's equipment begins.

  2. 02

    We explain the situation.

You hear, in plain words, which parts are ours and which are SCE's.

  3. 03

We give you the price before any work begins.

Our $99 service fee covers the time we need to evaluate the situation, the available options, and guaranteed pricing before any work begins. Every decision about what happens next belongs to you.

  4. 04

    Then you decide.

We'll explain what we see and walk you through your options. You decide what fits your home.
