What Is SCE's Charge Ready Home Program?
Charge Ready Home is a Southern California Edison (SCE) program, and SCE serves Palm Springs. For qualifying households in single-family homes, it pays toward a new panel of 200 amps or more and a 240-volt charging circuit. You don't need an electric car, but the program asks you to add a Level 2 charger on that circuit.
An electric car isn't required. A Level 2 home charger is.
Two deadlines
You can apply while the work is planned, while it's underway, or up to six months after it's done. Once you receive the rebate, the Level 2 charger is due within 180 days.

A household in a single-family home qualifies in one of two ways. One is by income: it earns less than 80% of the area's typical income, or takes part in a public assistance program SCE lists. The other is by where you live, in a community the state ranks as disadvantaged.

They're separate: the program can help pay, and the permit is the city's. In Palm Springs, a panel upgrade takes a city permit before the work starts and an inspection once it's done. The program asks for the finished permit, signed off by the city inspector, so plan on the permit either way.
